Tips:
How I Completed The Project:
In the beginning, when I started the project, I calculated how much it would cost to create the birthday bags so I knew what I was dealing with. My first approach was to call and write to super markets and party places in my area to seek donations but I didn't have as much luck as I had hoped. My next approach was to send out a letter and put donation boxes in local elementary schools.
My biggest advantage was that I am involved a lot in town so a lot of kids donated because they knew me so I had better results. I also held a movie night for kids in my town and charged admission, then used the money to buy items I did not receive as donations. Donations are a huge help because the bags tend to get a bit expensive especially when you are on a budget.
Getting others to help you fill the bags gets the job done and makes it fun as well. Lastly, the bags have to go somewhere right? I contacted my county's social services so they could distribute the bags to needy families that they know.
What I Learned:
Doing a project as involved as this is a lot of work and requires a lot of time and dedication. It is not something that can be done by yourself and the help of others is greatly appreciated. Staying organized is a huge part of the project because it makes it easier to stay on task and figure out what step is next. I do believe a good cause sparks generosity in anyone.
- Do Not Procrastinate if you have a time frame(it takes longer than you think!)
- Try to get items donated
- Stay Organized
- Get others to help
- Find an Agency willing to work with you to distribute the bags
